... everyone loves construction workers

... 'specially these two, eh?

well... we may not be ready to face oncoming traffic with our signs and tractors, but L and i were ready for our celebration drinks saturday night after the Toastmaster event! what's funnier is that Jack made a comment on today's previous posts about hard hats.... giggle. (jack, whoodathunkit?, eh?)

the other award that L and i both received was the "club construction crew" award, which consisted of these hard hats and stickers on them representing our level of involvement. There were at least 10 others that received the same type of recognition. it was actually damned funny (i'll wager) to see us all crammed up on stage while smiling for pics and giggling like idiots with those hard hats on.

so, sorry for the lameness of a cameraphone, but i assure you, her one beer and my one kamikazee (straight up, for any fans) went down quickly, and damned if we didn't carpool to our respective homes in time to crash. 7:30am to almost midnight was enough for us. dunno about dear L, but i'm not as young as i used to be....

I remember fondly the times I went to the Kansas District Optimists quarterly conventions. I big part of such doings was the recognition of work well done. I suspect that your well-deserved construction awards were due to your unflagging efforts to get more folks involved in the wonderful world of public speaking. I used to love the impromptu speeches.

Your secret is probably safe with you and L as to the number of congratulatory drinks. It is the ones leading up to the celebration that you are not publicly counting. But the spies were there and they have kept a very careful count. tee hee.

Once again, a hearty CONGRATULATIONS! to two very deserving Toastmasters.

PS. Your cell phone camera did a great job. It's a good thing L was there to insure the camera didn't explode. lol

Jack, if there's one thing I learned years ago - always surround myself with people better looking than me... that somehow makes me look a little better, if not jes' tolerable.

and for the record, mr smartypants, it was truly one drink each. the conference was held at seattle pacific university, and while the facility was top notch, not a droplet of booze was allowed at the event. the international speech contest that rounded out the evening was amazing, but draining too... one drink and we both did those infamous "10 minute blinkees." we knew at that point it was time to bail.

;)

I guess there is no way for me to hide my alter-ego, mr. smartypants. At least that appelation is better than the one my mother uses in reference to me. Wise Ass. With emphasis on the Ass. The crosses we must bear.

I do hope you have had time for another quiet libation with wifee and the menagerie. We are all proud of your accomplishments. You do know how to....

Serve well! Live fully! Do good works.

yeah, what my dad said...

why is it weird/cool/odd/funny for me to have him referenced in a blog i read, that i turned him to?

s'okay Shanny, I like your family. even if I can't seem to get cookies to him. still pissed and traumitized over that issue.

and Jack? wifee was passed out, libation-free in bed. she didn't even know what time i got home.

which is funny, because the entire damned menagerie jumped off the bed to come attack me and welcome me home that evening... er.. morning. (12:05ish.. i swear!)

-b, forget about the cookies. Your frequent, cogent comments are much more meaningful and valuable to me. Besides, I have stopped buying cookies. Oreos have always been my favorite store bought cookie.

For what it is worth, every Friday when I go for coffee with the Old Bastards, we have fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. Last week they were fresh out of the oven and the chocolate just oozed out and all over my fingers. Ooh, so good!

From here on out, I will be reminded of you every Friday morning that I meet with the OB's. How is that for influencing someone else?
