.... up yours

... well, up your chimney at least. our weekend plans of utilizing the 3 days of non-work goodness were dashed with the realization that i wasn't able to build the new facade for the fireplace until we get an inspector out to clean out the flute, inspect the cage, (apparently that term is used for the inside hearth area where the hot shit sits) and determine if we really want to use that fireplace once in awhile. this realization effected my ability to nail in the floor trim/baseboard that passes by on each side and reduced my ability to work to... well... nada.

mr puddins and i are a bit stumped. wifee has fears (valid ones i may add) of building a wood facade to essentially cover the current brick fireplace. i've been told that using products like "wonderboard" and fire retardant paints make this okay... but in reality, that's just the groundwork of this shell since i intend to cover the entire "new faceplate" with new tile. (something cool and multicolored to compliment the colors in the new area)

included pics are a baseline for any of you visual folks to see the plan... and the REAL shot of how cruddy it currently looks... any advise from folks in the know out there? call out to ma' fellow bloggervillians - send me some sage advice! (or at least sound advice on issues, look-outs, etc)

i like my dad's style. :)

are you thinking of doing a hearth along the entire wall? just in front of the fp?

yeah, well a TON of BS shows up if you jes' do a search for what your dear father suggested... I am also hoping for other bloggervillians who may have insight personally on this matter... but anything helps fer sure.

Regarding your question, Shanny...
the entire dimensions of what you see in the pic will only increase by about 4-5 inches around it completely. I will also install a floating mantle, and the side walls will have two other floating shelves juxtaposed against the agjacent walls... perfect spots for a pic or two, with cool arse Sconces on each side of the framed Mirror that's soon to go up above the "future hearth"

So, yesh, just the hearth.
Wall will be left for other goodness...

:)

It took me a while to winnow the good stuff from the bullshit. However, you are worth it. Here are a couple of sites that just might have the answers you were seeking.

Fireplace demolition and veneer preparation

Fireplace final touches

I hope these are of some help. If not let mr. puddins do it. However, if you choose that method take lots of notes and videotape it.

Good luck.

i'm amazed at how LITTLE i can find of use on the internet these days. considering i design them, that's really kinda sad in retrospect.

I kind of guessed that when Shannon asked permission to give you my address. It's probably a good thing I didn't mention special brownies. I thought if I didn't give permission you would figure it out, but now I'm not so sure. I'm glad a told her yes, I think.

I'll let you know when the package arrives.

Good luck on your fireplace project.
