... rock on dood
... oh yeah. that's right. i did it. wifee slept off a nasty headache on saturday and i managed to bulldawg this big gaddamned slap-o-stony-goodness into place! kitchen is 100% officially finished! can i get a woot woot?
did i mention that this roughly 34"x36" slab was one of the heaviest and most cumbersome thing i've ever lifted? holy crap was it stoopid for me to do alone. but i beat those odds, (and sorry-feeling sleepin' wifee) and did it. damned thing is about 150lbs. don't sound heavy to ya? you try lifting and setting, measuring, holding, grasping, gaspoing, dropping pencils, measuring tapes and the like a dozen times to get the layout and positioning right. 150lb equates to a ton-o-pain after 2 hours.
so, yeah. i'm done. i'm tapped too. now i'm back to avoiding the whole, "gotta redo that fireplace facade" area again. goodness the fun never ends. pics to post if i ever get that done in the future too. whimper...
it's called "mithril." Means 'expensive crap from somewhere in Europe' apparently. a close friend gave me the piece tho, so i'm one lucky sonofabuscuit fer sure. this is a cool close-up shot so you can see the detailed striations of mineraly-goodness.... or this is a shot of the orion nebula. I dunno. (ooooh, shiny)
this is simply a side view-o-goodness. why, you ask? 'cuz i've got two crushed fingers and a trigger happy camera finger that says i can. so there.
tell me it's purdy....

That tile is magnificent.
You should put your dishwasher on a shirt so you feel pretty all day long.
It's purddy...and shiiiny
woot! woot!
It's more than purdy...
...it's wyyokfa (WV)
It seemed to fit, just like that huge, heavy, gigantic slab of beauty. (Something like why of course in bronxbt language.
Now that I have looked at it more closely, I wonder. Are you sure you don't have it backwards?
ROTFLMAO
You do good work, young man. Who knows you may have a whole new career in front of you--avoiding such physical labor.
jack - we are sooo gonna rumble whenever we meet....
not only did I do a "backwards? awoo?" reaction and actually go back to the pic to look (you arse)
but now I feel like one too.
Shari? - i don't look good in dishwater, so i'll prolly have to pass on the shirt idea... but a good one fer sure... giggle
Adrianne - thankees. like a crow, if i think i could lift it again, i'd carry it off to my nest and jes' stare....
*snerk
Now that was a good gotcha. snerk, snork, sniggle, snoggle, gasp, guffaw, and a mild titter.
I'm so proud of my honey doing this. I was feeling pretty sorry that day, I remember passing out and waking up to this lovely thing.
*celebrates*
wait... "lovely thing" being ME or the Mithril?
hmmmm
that's gorgeous! i like the way it plays of the back splash tiles!
although next time, wait to have help!
VERY nice, little bro!!

BCT -- that's an amazingly beautiful surface; art, fer'sure. As to toting 150 pounds around, are you looking to get another hernia? Our 48x20 slate coffee table top is 100, and each RR iron found art item hovers at 100. I've moved them from house to house over the years, which is why I am old and tired now. But 150? No way! Good on'ya. Yer'Dad
sis - thanks! we luv it tons.
dad - it's incredibly dense material. (like yer son) the folks at the stone/masonry shop said they had never seen something so heavy per square foot. close to 45lb per! (or something like that... ugh)
